Taxonomy & naming
L152 is a hobby code from the L-number system that DATZ began for imported loricariids that could not yet be identified. The form has no describing authority and no type specimens. The registry lists it as Pseudorinelepis sp. "L 152", and PlanetCatfish files it as Pseudorinelepis sp. (L152). The registry places the genus in the Rhinelepinae; the atlas files it under Hypostominae. Trade names on record are Orinoco pinecone pleco, the German Orinoko-Tannenzapfenwels (Orinoco pine-cone catfish) and pineapple pleco. Pseudorinelepis sp. "Río Inirida" and Pseudorinelepis sp. "Manaus" are listed as similar catfishes. The bibliography cites the Welsatlas 2, the Miniatlas L-Welse (both 2005), a Heiko Bleher piece on loricariids and a Practical Fishkeeping press review.
Morphology
The registry puts L152 at more than 19.5 in total length; no measured maximum is on record. Pinecone and pineapple are trade labels, not descriptions: no details of body, armour or markings are given, so the diagnostic characters are not on record. Pseudorinelepis is a genus of suckermouth armoured catfishes covered in bony plates; nothing further is documented for this particular code.
Habitat
L152 is recorded from the Río Apure in Venezuela, in the states of Apure and Guárico, within the Río Orinoco system. Water type, habitat place, substrate, depth and current are all unrecorded, so the character of its river habitat is not documented. The registry's temperature and pH figures are aquarium keeping ranges, not field data.
Feeding
The registry classes L152 as predominantly an omnivore; whether it eats plants is not recorded. In the aquarium an omnivorous pleco is usually given sinking pellets and wafers, vegetables such as courgette, and some frozen meaty food. Its diet in the Río Apure has not been documented.
Mating
For sexing, the registry offers only a genus-level pointer to check head and body shape and the genital papilla; no particular differences are described for L152. Breeding biology is not documented for Pseudorinelepis, so no courtship behaviour, spawning site or parental care can be given, and the cave-spawning pattern of other plecos cannot simply be assumed.
Breeding
No aquarium breeding of L152 is recorded; the registry lists breeding as unknown. Spawning site, clutch size, incubation and parental care are all unrecorded for this form. That is an absence of information, not evidence about how hard the fish is to spawn.
In the aquarium
Size sets the terms for L152: the registry lists more than 19.5 in total length and recommends a tank at least 78.5 in long. Its keeping range is 77–84 °F and pH 5.5–7.5, aquarium guidance and not field measurement. No advice on keeping groups is given. As with other large plecos, clean, well-oxygenated water and robust cover are expected, and territorial behaviour toward other plecos is common.
Conservation
Neither the IUCN Red List nor the registry says anything about the numbers of L152 in the Río Apure: it is Not Evaluated, and an undescribed form cannot be assessed until it has a name. In general, collection for the trade and river engineering affect some L-number habitats, though nothing specific is documented for this fish.
