Mylochromis sp. "Deep" "Maleri Island" is the Maleri Island population of Mylochromis sp. "Deep", a geographic colour form from the Malawi coast of Lake Malawi in the southern part of the lake. It is the same species as Mylochromis sp. "Deep", distinguished by its collection locality and local coloration; aquarists keep and breed it as a discrete, provenance-labelled line.

About the species
Mylochromis sp. "Deep" is an undescribed haplochromine recorded at Maleri Island, in southern Lake Malawi. Its trade name marks it as a deep-water form, part of a pattern seen across several Mylochromis lineages in which populations occupy deeper sand and transition habitat than most of the lake's better-known rock-dwelling cichlids reach. It has not been formally described.
