Taxonomy & naming
Hyphessobrycon krenakore Teixeira, Netto-Ferreira, Birindelli & Sousa, 2016 is the valid name in the Catalog of Fishes. The genus Hyphessobrycon is now placed in the family Acestrorhamphidae. No parentheses are needed in the authority because the species was described in this genus.
Morphology
Morphological detail is not recorded in the sources available to the atlas. See the original description for diagnostic characters.
Habitat
The type locality is a pond below the bridge on highway BR-163 near Castelo dos Sonhos, in a tributary of the Rio Curuá, Rio Xingu basin, Altamira, Pará, Brazil (about 8°15'S, 55°07'W). Further habitat information is not recorded in available sources.
Feeding
Diet in the wild is not recorded. Close relatives eat small invertebrates and plant matter and take fine prepared foods.
Mating
Not recorded in available sources.
Breeding
Breeding has not been documented for this species. Hyphessobrycon are typically egg-scattering with no parental care, but that describes the genus, not H. krenakore.
In the aquarium
Sold by Wet Spot under its scientific name. No husbandry data have been published. A group in a planted tank with soft to moderately hard, slightly acidic water is a reasonable starting point for a Xingu tetra.
Conservation
Not evaluated by the IUCN Red List as far as the atlas knows. It is known from the Rio Xingu drainage; the Xingu is under pressure from dams and deforestation, but no species-level threat assessment exists. Collection for the trade is the main conservation question for any narrow-range species, and none is documented for this one.
