Crossocheilus nigriloba is a Bornean flying-fox relative described by Popta in 1904 from the Bo River in central Borneo. FishBase gives a maximum of 5.5 in TL. Few records exist beyond the original description.

Taxonomy & naming

Popta described the species in 1904 as a variety, which is why the Catalog of Fishes writes the authority as (var. Popta 1904). It is valid in Crossocheilus. The type comes from the Bo River in central Borneo.

Morphology

A slender, grazing cyprinid that FishBase gives at a maximum of 5.5 in TL. The name nigriloba suggests a dark lobe, probably on the tail, but this has not been described in detail.

Habitat

It is known from Borneo, with the type locality in the Bo River of the central island; FishBase lists the range as East Borneo, in freshwater of tropical conditions. Water parameters have not been published.

Feeding

Crossocheilus graze algae and biofilm and take small invertebrates.

Mating

Mating behaviour has not been described.

Breeding

Captive breeding has not been documented.

In the aquarium

A tank with flow, high oxygen and hard surfaces to graze suits the genus. Keep a group. Care notes are based on related species.

Conservation

The IUCN Red List category is Least Concern, assessed in 2019. Threats have not been described.
