Taxonomy & naming
An L-number such as L115 is a trade code from the system DATZ started in 1988 for imported loricariids not yet identified; it is not a scientific name, and the form has no describing authority or type specimens. The registry files the fish as Baryancistrus sp. "L 115", and PlanetCatfish lists Baryancistrus sp. (L115) and treats L248 as the same fish. Trade names are Mega Snowball Pleco and, in German, Trombetas-Prachtharnischwels (Trombetas splendid armoured catfish). Snowball names are used for more than one L-number in the hobby, so the name alone does not identify L115. The registry's bibliography lists the Welsatlas 2 and Miniatlas L-Welse (both 2005) and Das Aquarium 12/93.
Morphology
The registry gives about 12 in total length for L115. Diagnostic characters are not on record and there is no written description; "Mega" and "snowball" are trade labels, not measured characters. The registry lists no similar fishes. As a Baryancistrus it is a large suckermouth armoured catfish whose body is covered in bony plates.
Habitat
The registry places L115 in the Rio Trombetas at Cachoeira Porteira, in the state of Pará, Brazil, and classes the water as clearwater. Cachoeira is Portuguese for a waterfall or rapids, but the registry does not say which this site is. No substrate or other habitat details are on record. The general loricariid needs for clean, well-oxygenated water with current and rock cover are genus-level background, not an observation for L115.
Feeding
The registry classes L115 as predominantly herbivorous and notes that it eats aquarium plants, which matters in a planted tank. Aquarium feeding built on vegetable matter, such as vegetable-based sinking foods and fresh vegetables, follows from that class. No information on the natural diet of this form is on record.
Mating
For sexing, the registry gives only a genus-level pointer: look at the head and the pectoral-fin rays. It does not describe what differs, so no detail is given. Baryancistrus are typically cave spawners in which the male guards the eggs and larvae in the cave, and the registry rates the cave requirement as standard for the genus. Courtship and spawning behaviour of L115 are not documented.
Breeding
The registry marks breeding of L115 as unknown, so no aquarium spawning is on record. Everything about a spawning, from clutch size to the development of the fry, is undocumented. The cave-spawning pattern described under Mating is typical of the genus and is not a record for this form.
In the aquarium
The registry's keeping range for L115 is 79–86 °F and pH 5.5–7.0, with a tank about 59 in long recommended. These figures are aquarium guidance, not field data. Small groups are recommended, and a single fish is possible. Clean, well-oxygenated water and caves of rock or wood suit plecos of this kind, and territorial behaviour toward other plecos is common. The registry notes that it eats aquarium plants, so in a planted tank soft-leaved species may be eaten.
Conservation
L115 has not been assessed by the IUCN Red List and is Not Evaluated; an undescribed form cannot be assessed until it has a name. For Brazilian export the registry notes that it is not on Brazil's 2012 positive list (species cleared for ornamental export) and not on Brazil's 2020 negative list. Population size is not on record. More generally, collection for the trade and river engineering affect some L-number habitats.
