Taxonomy & naming
Parenti and Soeroto described the species in 2004 from Lake Poso. It is placed in Adrianichthys with the other large Poso buntingi, and its description followed Kottelat's 1990 revision of the lake's ricefishes.
Morphology
A large Adrianichthys with the upturned-jaw build of the genus. FishBase gives a maximum of 3.5 in SL.
Habitat
Endemic to Lake Poso, Sulawesi Tengah (Central Sulawesi), Indonesia. FishBase describes it as a freshwater fish that is probably pelagic.

Conservation
The IUCN Red List classes Adrianichthys roseni as Critically Endangered, meaning it faces an extremely high risk of extinction in the wild. It is confined to one lake, where introduced fishes, fishing and habitat change threaten the endemic fauna.
