Oryzias kalimpaaensis is a ricefish described in 2022 from Lake Kalimpa'a in Central Sulawesi, one of the most recently named of the island's lake endemics. FishBase gives a maximum of 2 in SL.

Taxonomy & naming

Gani, Suhendra, Herder and colleagues described the species in 2022 from Lake Kalimpa'a, in Lore Utara, Poso Regency. The name refers to the lake.

Morphology

A ricefish larger than most of its relatives; FishBase gives a maximum of 2 in SL.

Habitat

Lake Kalimpa'a, a small lake in Central Sulawesi; not known elsewhere. FishBase describes it as a freshwater, pelagic fish recorded to a depth of 36 ft.
