Taxonomy & naming
Aequidens sp. "Inirida" is a hobby label for an undescribed cichlid. The name refers to the Río Inírida in Colombia; Rick Borstein (GCCA, 2008) prints it as "Rio Inrida". He writes that there is almost nothing about the fish on the internet and calls it an enigma, and he says he got his stock from fellow GCCA member Debbie Keeling, if memory serves. The form has no formal description, so it has no valid name, authority or year.
Morphology
Rick Borstein (GCCA, 2008) describes thick-bodied fish, like other Aequidens. Males have a dark horizontal stripe and a golden sheen along the flank that runs into the tail. Females in a playful mood show a dark, nearly checkerboard pattern. No adult length is given.
Habitat
The GCCA source records no collection locality or water data for these fish, only that they grew and spawned in Chicago tap water.
Feeding
The GCCA source gives no adult diet. The fry took freshly hatched brine shrimp only with difficulty, and Rick Borstein (GCCA, 2008) had the best results with micro-sized brine shrimp eggs, which he says are about 30% smaller than Utah eggs.
Mating
Rick Borstein (GCCA, 2008) reports that the pair spawned on a small piece of slate in the rear corner of the tank.
Breeding
Rick Borstein (GCCA, 2008) kept the pair in a 40 US gal (forty breeder) tank. They spawned on slate and proved very good parents, raising about 100 fry and defending them against tankmates. The fry are very small.
In the aquarium
Rick Borstein (GCCA, 2008) found the fish much less aggressive than other Aequidens he has kept. They grew and spawned for him without difficulty.
Conservation
An undescribed form has no IUCN category, and none is claimed here. Population and range data for it are not documented in the atlas's sources.
