Haplochromis cryptodon is a Lake Victoria haplochromine cichlid described in 1959 by the British ichthyologist Humphry Greenwood, whose decades of work on the lake's cichlid flock culminated in landmark revisions splitting the assemblage into satellite genera by trophic specialization. The species was later placed in Lipochromis, the genus Greenwood erected for the flock's remarkable paedophagous 'fry-eating' specialists. The CARES Preservation Program lists it as Endangered.
