Taxonomy & naming
Heros sp. "Inirida" is a trade label for an undescribed severum, named for the Rio Inirida. Imperial Tropicals notes that some hobbyists suggest it could be a subspecies of Heros notatus or Heros efasciatus, and says this is not confirmed. The atlas takes no position. The form is undescribed, and its identity and range are not documented in the sources behind the atlas.
Morphology
Imperial Tropicals says mature fish kept well typically show an orange or yellow body largely covered by blue-green iridescent scales with red spots, that dominant males have a red anal fin and a yellow-orange patch behind the gill plate, and that colour and pattern vary a lot between individuals. No measurements are recorded.
Habitat
Imperial Tropicals says the form is known from the Rio Inirida, in Colombia and Venezuela, mostly from exports with little recorded data. Genus-level: Heros severums are deep-bodied South American cichlids of the Amazon and Orinoco drainages, living in slow water with plant cover and wood.
Feeding
Not documented for this form. Genus-level: severums eat plant material as well as small invertebrates, and take vegetable-rich prepared foods in the aquarium.
Mating
Not documented for this form.
Breeding
Not documented for this form. Genus-level: Heros are substrate spawners that lay on a cleaned surface, and both parents guard the eggs and fry.
In the aquarium
Imperial Tropicals says the fish is not often seen in the hobby. Genus-typical care applies: a large tank, soft to moderately hard water, and tankmates of similar size.
Conservation
An undescribed form has no IUCN category, and none is claimed here. Population and range data for it are not documented in the atlas's sources.
