Taxonomy & naming
L368 is a DATZ L-number: a trade code from the system started in 1988 for imported loricariids not yet identified, so it carries no describing authority and no type specimens. The L-Wels registry lists it as Scobinancistrus sp. "L 368" and PlanetCatfish as Scobinancistrus sp. (L368), with no second code recorded. Moon pleco is the registry's common name; the German trade name is Schneeball-Harnischwels. Similar fishes named are Scobinancistrus pariolispos (L133) and Baryancistrus sp. L142 (also LDA 33). The literature cited runs from the Welsatlas 2 and Miniatlas L-Welse (2005) to a Rahardja article whose German title means "breeding succeeded" and an Amazonas press review from March–April 2016.
Morphology
Registry data give about 15.5 in total length. Neither pattern nor body shape is described, so the diagnostic characters of L368 are not on record; "Moon" and "Schneeball" (snowball) are trade names, not descriptions. The registry lists Scobinancistrus pariolispos (L133) and Baryancistrus sp. L142 as similar fishes.
Habitat
L368 is placed in the Rio Tapajós drainage between Jacareacanga and Pimental in Pará, Brazil, within the Amazon system, in clearwater. The registry lists Ancistrus sp. L309, Baryancistrus sp. L142, Hypancistrus sp. L260 and Pseudacanthicus sp. L273 as found together with it. Habitat place and substrate are not on record.
Feeding
The registry answers no to whether the fish eats plants and classes L368 as a carnivore. In the aquarium that means meaty foods such as frozen fish and invertebrate foods rather than vegetable matter. Field diet data are lacking.
Mating
Registry sexing advice is a genus-level statement for Scobinancistrus: watch the shape of the head. Scobinancistrus are typically cave spawners in which the male guards the eggs and larvae in the cave, and the registry treats cave needs as standard for the genus. Nothing specific to L368 is recorded.
Breeding
The registry marks L368 as bred in captivity and cites Rahardja, whose article carries a German title meaning "breeding succeeded". No spawning details are given, so clutch size, timing and rearing of the young are unrecorded.
In the aquarium
The registry's keeping range is 79–86 °F and pH 5.0–7.0, with a recommended tank length of 59 in; these are aquarium figures, not field measurements. Small groups are recommended, though a lone fish is also possible. A large pleco from clear Tapajós water needs clean, well-oxygenated conditions with current, rock or wood caves and space, since territorial behaviour toward other plecos is common.
Conservation
L368 has not been assessed by the IUCN Red List, as an undescribed form cannot be evaluated until it has a name. The registry records it as not on Brazil's 2012 positive list of species cleared for ornamental export and not on the 2020 negative list. Trade collection and river engineering affect some L-number habitats; nothing specific is on record for the Tapajós population.
