Taxonomy & naming
Roberts, Chakraborty, Yardi and Mukherjee described the species in 2021 from the Sutinmari River, a tributary system of the Sankosh drainage in the Brahmaputra basin. It belongs to Oryzias in the sense used in recent Indian literature.
Morphology
A small ricefish; no maximum size is recorded here.
Habitat
The type locality is the Sutinmari River near Barobisha, Alipurduar District, at about 207 ft elevation. The species is known from this part of the Brahmaputra drainage in northeastern India.
