As in most Pseudotropheus, males are expected to be territorial and intolerant of similarly patterned rivals, so stocking should favour a single male with several females and visually distinct tankmates.

Conservation

Pseudotropheus lucerna has not been assessed by the IUCN Red List in any record confidently known here, and no status should be assumed for it.
