The single collection record consulted for this article gives Cobwe as the site, a locality on the lake’s eastern shore historically associated with Mozambican territory, though no country attribution for this specific record could be confirmed in the sources consulted. Morphology
Labidochromis lividus, the species this population’s trade name references, is a mid-sized member of the genus named for its dark, “livid” colouration — Latin lividus meaning bluish or leaden-hued — with males typically a deep, near-uniform slate blue-black. No description or photographed voucher of “Lividus Mozambique” has been published, so whether this population shares that dark colouration cannot be confirmed here. Rather than guess at the exact pattern, it is presented as a genus-typical Labidochromis in the lividus mould pending a proper field account.
Habitat
The only locality on record for “Lividus Mozambique” is Cobwe, on Lake Malawi’s eastern shore. Labidochromis lividus and its relatives are rock-dwellers of the typical Malawi littoral zone, occupying boulder faces and crevices. No depth or micro-habitat record specific to this population has been published, so the ranges given here reflect the genus-typical rocky-reef envelope. Water conditions follow Lake Malawi’s standard inshore rocky-habitat profile: warm, hard, and strongly alkaline. Depth in particular tends to correlate with predation pressure and light penetration in Lake Malawi's rocky habitats, both of which shape which Labidochromis ecotype — grazer or picker — dominates a given rock face, though no site-specific study exists for this population.
Feeding
No dedicated feeding study exists for “Lividus Mozambique.” Rock-dwelling Labidochromis in general either rasp aufwuchs from submerged stone or work fine gaps between rocks for small crustaceans and insect larvae. Until a specific feeding account is published, it is presented here as a genus-typical rock-associated micro-invertivore or aufwuchs grazer in the lividus mould. A keeper who obtained it should provide a standard rocky-reef Lake Malawi setup: substantial rockwork with caves and crevices, fine sand substrate, and hard, alkaline water in the range of roughly 75–82 °F and pH 7.7–8.6. Given the genus’s mixed feeding strategies, a varied diet offering both plant-based flake and small meaty foods is a sensible default. No species-specific husbandry record for this form exists. Strong water movement and high dissolved oxygen — achieved with vigorous filtration or a powerhead — are worth prioritising given the moderate-to-deep water this genus favours in the wild, and, as with most mbuna, males can be intolerant of similarly patterned tankmates in a small aquarium.
