Maylandia sp. "Elongatus Chidunga" has no describing author and no entry in Eschmeyer's Catalog of Fishes; it is an informal trade name, not a scientific one. The "elongatus" group refers to a slender-bodied, eel-like build shared by a cluster of Malawi mbuna forms, most commonly encountered under the closely related genus Pseudotropheus as Pseudotropheus elongatus and its many locality variants; this form is recorded here under Maylandia, following its listing in the source consulted, though the elongatus-type mbuna's placement between Pseudotropheus and Maylandia has been treated inconsistently across sources and remains genuinely unsettled. Standard mbuna husbandry applies, with an emphasis on narrow crevices and tight rockwork gaps suited to its slender body shape, hard alkaline water matching Lake Malawi chemistry, and a vegetable-forward diet suited to its grazing habit. Rockwork should be built directly on the tank floor or a false bottom rather than stacked on loose substrate, both for stability and to give the fish the cave structure it needs; a primarily vegetable diet, kept light on protein, mirrors its natural grazing intake and reduces the risk of bloat, a common ailment in mbuna fed too rich a diet.
